Mobile Networks Shut Down for Security Issues:: Is it Really necessary

Hi Everyone:

Yes, We are in a state of constant threats from the Evils of ISIS and other Civil Militants (A.K.A Terrorists). Yes, whenever there is some event good or bad, for happiness or for sadness, for religion or for business matters, we are all afraid of just one thing and that is a terrorist attack. and Since the dawn of 2007 we have seen a trend in Pakistan that Government shuts down mobile networks in Pakistan's major cities every single time. So Does it really make any difference in the security issue.

Let's take a look at different perspectives of this situation.

Mobile phones and internet business shut down:

Many of the Smartphone brands are shut down and in most cases the small business that are associated with it. For Example, I have seen many small shopkeepers who have a by stand for Easy Load and Mobile Cards as a side business for them. It is completely shut down right now. In many major cities People are experiencing Internet shut down as well. This has lead to a situation where some people with at home business and online stores can't properly do their own work.
So in short if mobile phones and internet network is shut down, our country's businesses are shut down.

Satellite Phones or Special Contact cells (Police wireless):

If you turn on your TV right now you will see Police and Security Officers making contacts using their own Wireless Satellite Communication System. This similar technology is used by Media personals and reporters to communicate and report to the live TV. So what comes to my mind is that, If Cellphones for public are Shut Down, are the Terrorists so stupid they will not know about these Satellite communication Devices and can't they plan their attacks using that.

Politicians and Government on Safe Side:

Our Point here is not that politicians are safe from terrorists attacks, Yes they are as vulnerable as us. But they are safe from the Public Criticism that the Government has not done anything major for National Security. People tend to think that Ok, fine our phone is off so basically we are can not contact anyone so terrorists can also not contact each other.

Security checks and lawlessness:

Apart from the fact that Networks are shut down for security. What about the walk throughs and Barriers. We see spiked and even electric naked Cables every where for security reasons. But where ever you may see these security measures you will see people trying to bypass anything that come in their way. People don't use and respect security checks the way they should be done.

Over all Verdict:

We think that the Government should make people abide by the Physical Barriers of security, and people should personally be aware of the fact that these barriers are for their own security. But, putting an online barrier to terrorism that is affecting and can affect us Physically is plain Ridiculous idea. If Government reports are to be believed then everything is fine, But if Media reports and Public Opinion is to be considered then we are still as vulnerable after the network shut down as we are with out the shut down.
