Hello Friends:
Last month we saw Microsoft in a surprising way announcing not one but two new cell phones following the trend of a regular size with an XL. Since then it seems like ages have passed and finally we can have them in our hands and see what they can do best as well as how they stake up against the competition.
You can call both of these phones as faternal twins, as apart from camera, screen size and battery they are the same in every other aspect. Both have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Processor clocked at Quad core 1.2 Ghz and 1 GB of RAM. The Chipset performance is supported by the Adreno 305 GPU. Both come with same internal storage capacity of 8 GB and external card support of upto 128 GB. They also share the same blessings from Microsoft, 30 GB of One drive Cloud storage for a year, 1 year free subscription to Office 365 and Lumia camera applications.
Differences are not big but they can matter to some extent. As the XL version has a larger screen of 5.7'' as compared to the regular one with 5 " screen. The larger also has a larger rear camera of 13 MP Carl ziess Optics against the 8 MP autofocus of regular Lumia 640. The screen resolution is same in both which means the larger screen has to spread its pixels to fill the screen space which means the larger screen has less PPI density. Battery is also varied at 3000 mAh for the larger XL to 2500 mAh for smaller 640.
Now Let's take a look at the overall performance of the two:-
SCREEN:-
With its capability of producing HD 720p Image quality with 16m colors you certainly has to expect great quality display. The phone delivers it well, producing vibrant colors and smooth touch response in almost every task you throw on the screen. But you may require a screen guard to protect from the smudges other wise Gorilla glass is there to protect from any type of screen damage.
CPU and Software:-
Having a dragon under neath the screen makes the phone perform rather well for its specs. The latest update for Windows 8.1 update 2 also performs exceptionally when it comes to day to day usage. Apps for video editing and image rendering also work nicely. If you want to have a gaming experience then these phones can perform the best in all departments. But here is the catch the software is yet to recieve the major promised Windows 10 Update so we ll see how this hardware performs with that once available.
Camera and Battery:-
Both cameras give good results but you can expect the XL to work better as it has got a Carl
Ziess lens on the rear camera. Other camera application tweaks remain the same in both and perform reasonably. Battery wise both phones can kill through a single day easily but can die easily by next morning if not taken care.
Final Verdict:
Both Phones are not with flagship specs but considering the low mid range pricing both give you value for money. Out of these two which you need to buy is as usual your own choice if you have larger hands or already have experience with the Phablets then go for the XL that will sooth your desires well. But if You have short hands like the author then don't bother the 640 has every thing same apart from Camera.
