How Bio-Technology is Changing our lives...Things you need to know

Hi Science fanatics,

Man has always seen himself as the prime of life, the most vital and most significant living organism on the planet. Indeed we have done so much during our total Mankind era of roughly less then 10,000 years which species of other organisms have never been able to do even in Millions of years. All this because of the intelligence that God has gifted us with. We are most intelligent life beings on this planet yet we are still very much vulnerable.

The vulnerability has caused us to suffer many diseases as well as atrocities among golden times of our history. But since last 50 years, Science has been making progress by leaps and bounds. A relatively new form of science is working for making us better by making stuff for our own welfare using nothing else but life itself. Yes that is Bio-technology, now we are gonna take a look at the most vital works it has done for us since last 50 years.

1: Human Genome Project.

The project was launched in midest of 1990s, with one main but a huge goal to achieve. that goal was to know about and screen whole human genome. All the 3 Billion base pairs of DNA in Human Genome were to be examined and identified for their specific workings. Though the project was declared complete in 2003 still many scientists are working to find newer ways to identify and alter the human genome as much as possible. The most recent discovery includes the identification of the Prime gene involved in human aging. Scientists believe if this gene will be shut down humans will live a lot longer then now. But the worst consequences are also to be considered.

2: Cloning.

Cloning is one of the most interesting yet one of the most ethically debatable subject. This is such a science which can be very fruitful if used for the betterment of humans but can be extremely dangerous if done for evil purposes. cloning involves the general principles of copying a DNA sequence and making a one alike. Up till now scientists have worked on to clone several animals including the most recent one from UAST Kashmir Siri Nagar, where scientist has cloned an endangered goat called the Pashmina Goat or Noori
Though Whole human cloning is banned by several countries where cloning techniques are used for other purposes but individual human body parts are in works to be cloned.

3: The Golden Food.

Commonly called golden food is the genetically altered food. This food has genes that can produce anything that is necessary for humans like vitamins, protiens and minerals. The most recent is Golden Rice, these are being cultivated and eaten by people of Africa and certain other 3rd world countries where vitamin A lacking has caused several young kids to be born blind. This Rice is helping to fulfill the Deficiency of Vitamin A which is vital for Human Eye Sight.

4: Bio-Prosthetic:

The study of Tissue culture techniques and production of Bio Ink has enabled scientist to print a living organ which ever it may be using nothing but a 3d Printer. Bio Ink includes cells which are already developed from the cell lines of the individual for whom an organ has to be developed. This technique is undertaken by many people in lab studies but has yet to make its way to Hospitals for General Public

How to make MARS Liveable...AKA Terraforming

Hi, Ever thought that you should not live on this planet. well if you happen to be alive in 21st century you may have at least for once thought about it. Yes we all have to leave earth one day one after another via death. But is it the only way possible or is there any other way around. Indeed there is, as Scientist at NASA and other major space exploration facilities have continuously searching for a suitable planet to live on. But recent advancements have lead us to believe that searching a livable planet is by far the most difficult task as finding one is like finding needle in hay stack but they are far enough to make the task of going there as difficult as passing a camel through the pin hole. So the obvious questions remains the same can we live on other planets. The answer remarkably is yes we can, by terraforming other planets to our own needs. Remember the scene from Man of Steel movie where General Zod starts the World engine to make earth like krypton. Yes i...
